Netflix has got a jam-packed slate of originals for October 2022, all coming in time to enjoy on Halloween night too. So far in the month, subscribers have been able to enjoy Mike Flanagan’s The Midnight Club, which sees the modern horror master take an interesting departure from his previous Netflix shows like Midnight Mass and The Haunting of Bly Manor. The series follows a group of troubled teens at a hospice who form a bond when they meet at midnight to share scary stories, but their pact soon takes a darker turn when the horrors of their tales follow them into reality. The Midnight Club actually just received a Guinness World Record for the most jump scares in a single episode of TV, all done as one of the show’s many inside jokes. If that hasn’t piqued your interest then I don’t know what will.
The next big horror series of October 2022 comes in the shape of Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities. The show comes after his 4x Oscar-nominated feature Nightmare Alley and just right before his animated directorial debut in Netflix’s Pinnochio. The series takes inspiration from classic horror anthology programs like Creepshow and Tales from the Crypt and sees Guillermo Del Toro himself guide viewers across 8 terrifying standalone stories. Each tale comes from a prominent filmmaker hand-chosen by Del Toro. Moving on to original films, all eyes will be on The School for Good and Evil, which has been long-awaited by fans of the popular fantasy novel series it’s based on, and of course Wendell & Wild. The latter is stop motion legend Henry Selick’s first film since Coraline in 2009, making it a must-see event for all animation lovers.

Our Recs:
The School for Good and Evil
Based on the popular young adult fantasy series of the same name, The School for Good and Evil follows two best friends as they are magically teleported away to the place where heroes and villains are made. Every fairytale known to humankind has originated here, from Cinderella to Jack and the Beanstalk, since the Schools for Good and Evil are where people are tested and trained to form the next fantasy tales of tomorrow.
As our main young best friend duo find themselves in the very place where Snow White and the Evil Queen graduated from, they begin to realize that their destinies may not be as intertwined as they initially hoped for. Directed by Paul Feig, this is definitely the most star-studded Netflix release of October 2022, featuring the talents of Laurence Fishburne, Michelle Yeoh, Kerry Washington, and Charlize Theron as the school’s professors.
The School for Good and Evil premieres on Netflix October 19, 2022!
Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities
Following down the path of iconic programs like Creepshow andTales from the Crypt, visionary Guillermo Del Toro now guides audiences across 8 new horror tales from the best names in the game today. Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities features the talents of Panos Cosmatos (Mandy), Jennifer Kent (The Babadook), Ana Lily Amirpour (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night), David Prior (The Empty Man), and more.
Del Toro fans should know that his long-time cinematographer Guillermo Navarro, who shot both Hellboy films, The Devil’s Backbone, Pan’s Labyrinth, and Pacific Rim, is directing a segment here as well. Unlike most Netflix originals, Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities will be debuting two stories on 4 consecutive nights starting on October 25, truly making it a horror event like no other this Halloween season.
Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities kicks off on Netflix October 25, 2022!
Wendell & Wild
The return of stop motion maestro Henry Selick, Wendell & Wild meets the impeccable animation quality of his other classics like Coraline and The Nightmare Before Christmas. This latest twisted children’s tale follows a young goth girl who soon discovers her destiny as a Hellmaiden, and must wrestle with her two literal demons in forming her own path.
Newcomer Lyric Ross takes on the main role of Kat while Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key star as the two main demon brothers. Peele also co-wrote the script with Selick himself. This film has literally gone through hell and back to see the light of day, having endured a pandemic, wildfires, and more around its main production in Portland, Oregon. But as we said in our Wendell & Wild review, the long wait was worth it. Expect to see this as a huge contender in the next Best Animated Feature awards race.
Wendell & Wild hits Netflix October 28, 2022!

Leaving Netflix in October 2022
Thankfully, not too many notable horror films are leaving Netflix in October 2022. Subscribers should give their time to Sinister before it leaves. If you liked The Black Phone, then you’ll certainly enjoy this earlier work from the same filmmaker. And as Scott Derrickson actually told us, the two films share a very special connection. Anime fans will want to take notice that two Bleach films and the entirety of Naruto will be expiring from Netflix this month.
But perhaps the most controversial exit is all 3 seasons of Hemlock Grove, which is actually the very second original Netflix ever produced. This has been happening recently, like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and the other Marvel series moving over to Disney+. However, it’s unclear where Hemlock Grove will move to next if anywhere at all. This could possibly be the last time viewers get to easily watch the show, at least for a while. This move will only add eerier uncertainty to the current streaming era and its impact on physical media. Time will merely tell the fate of Hemlock Grove. Keep scrolling for the entire list of what’s leaving Netflix in October 2022.
