Critics Choice Awards 2023: The Winners

It’s time to unveil the winners for the 2023 Critics Choice Awards. Drawing from a pool of over 600 critics (including our very own Senior Film Critic Ben Rolph), the winners for the 28th Annual Critics Choice Awards are going to further solidify the standings for the current Oscars race. This year, the Critics Choice Association (CCA) gave two major updates to their ceremony: increasing the Best Picture nomination slots from 10 to 11 films (due to an exact tie) and increasing the Best Director slots to 10. Hollywood legend Jeff Bridges will receive the Critics Choice Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s show.

Everything Everywhere All at Once was the top winner of the 2023 Critics Choice Awards with 5 wins: Best Picture, Best Editing, Best Supporting Actor for Ke Huy Quan, Best Editing, and Best Director and Original Screenplay for the Daniels. Multiple films then followed with two wins each, including Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery for Best Comedy and Acting Ensemble and RRR for Best Original Song and Best Foreign Language Film. Meanwhile, Angela Bassett continued her Best Supporting Actress win streak for her role as Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Brendan Fraser and Catch Blanchett provided a change of pace with their Best Actor and Actress wins for The Whale and Tár respectively. The Oscar races in those two major categories is seemingly still anyone’s game. .

In the TV world, fan-favorite shows like Better Call Saul, Abbott Elementary, and The Dropout won big at the 2023 Critics Choice Awards. Better Call Saul took home the trophy for Best Drama Series while Bob Odenkirk and Giancarlo Esposito got time to shine on stage accepting the awards for their individual categories. Abbott Elementary continued its successful awards run with wins in Best Comedy Series and Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Sheryl Lee Ralph. The Dropout won Best Limited Series and Best Lead Actress in a Limited Series for Amanda Seyfried. Weird: The Al Yankovic Story brings another pair of notable TV wins: Best Movie Made for Television and Best Actor in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Televison for Daniel Radcliffe.
