The HBO Max May 2026 list of new arrivals is heating up the streaming service for the summer. For starters, Emerald Fennell’s steamy adaptation of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights is making its HBO Max streaming debut at the top of the month. Starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, Fennell’s take on the Gothic, romantic tragedy between the wealthy Cathy Earnshaw and her childhood best friend Heathcliff in 18th-century England was met with divisive critical reception. Fans of Brontë’s literary classic were even harsher in their critiques, citing numerous stark departures from the 1847 novel.
However, Emerald Fennell, the Oscar-winning writer-director behind Promising Young Woman (2020) and Saltburn (2023), has explained that the quotations in the title of “Wuthering Heights” (2026) are there to distinguish her unique interpretation from the source material. Her goal was to recapture the dreamy feelings she had when she first read the book as a teenager, bolstered by the equally mesmerizing and haunting original music from pop star Charli XCX. HBO Max subscribers can form an opinion of their own when “Wuthering Heights” arrives on May 1.
Speaking of Charli XCX, the singer-songwriter’s satirical mockumentary The Moment (2026) is also coming to HBO Max on May 29. The film is centered around the Brat Summer phenomenon that came from her titular hit album two years ago. Produced by famed indie studio A24 and co-written/directed by Charli’s longtime creative partner, Aidan Zamiri, The Moment examines the commodification of “era culture” in the music industry and the emotionally draining pressure on artists to deliver the next big thing. If you’re a Charli XCX fan and have been following the buzz around The Moment since its Sundance 2026 premiere, then HBO Max will be your go-to streaming platform in May 2026.
Another HBO Max streaming recommendation this month is Lurker (2025). The feature directorial debut of Alex Russell (Beef, The Bear), Lurker is arguably one of the most underrated indie films of last year. The parasocial thriller centers on the deceptive relationship between rising pop star Oliver (Archie Madekwe) and an obsessed fan named Matthew (Théodore Pellerin). Matthew, who will do anything and everything to rise in the ranks of Oliver’s inner circle, is like a chameleon that audiences can never get a grasp on. This results in a gripping thriller that packs a punch with its commentary on modern fandoms and parasocial relationships. Lurker comes to HBO Max on May 15.
To wrap up, the post-apocalyptic action-thriller Greenland 2: Migration, starring Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin, is having its HBO Max streaming premiere on May 8. Other notable additions include the second season of Jason Momoa‘s cinematic, HBO Max original docuseries On the Roam, which follows the actor as he “travels the country chasing art, adventure, and friendship through the lens of craftsmanship.” Plus, the HBO original film Miss You, Love You will be available to stream on May 29. Oscar and Emmy-winner Allison Janney teams up with 2x Tony-nominee Andrew Rannells for a dramedy about a blunt, grieving widow who is forced to plan her husband’s funeral with a total stranger: her estranged son’s assistant.
