The nominations for the 2022 Emmys are finally here! The road to the 74th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards has been a special one, given the wide variety of shows that have thrived and broken all kinds of new records for many platforms in the last year. Global phenomenons such as Netflix’s Squid Game and Marvel’s Loki dominated the streaming zeitgeist as the most-watched programs on their respective streaming services, and as expected, were given plenty of love from the Television Academy in this year’s Emmy nominations.

In a not-so-surprising move, however, HBO’s Succession came in as the top dog with 25 nominations total. HBO’s The White Lotus and AppleTV’s Ted lasso follow with 20 noms a piece. The HBO Max original comedy series Hacks and Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building then tied in third place with 17 noms. Netflix’s Stranger Things and Squid Game showed up with 13 and 14 noms respectively. In terms of newcomers that made a notable splash, ABC’s Abbott Elementary, Showtime’s Yellowjackets, and AppleTV’s Severence all got a decent load of recognition. The Marvel Cinematic Universe on Disney+ gathered 19 spots in total, Moon Knight leading with 8 noms, Loki coming in second with 6, the animated anthology series What If…? following in third place with 3, and Hawkeye finally squeezing in with only 2.

When talking about upsets, Netflix’s limited series Inventing Anna managed to slide in and claims some space in what is usually considered one of the most jam-packed races of the year. Other fan-favorite programs such as Netflxi’s horror series Midnight Mass and FX’s Reservation Dogs were sadly completely shut out with no love whatsoever. Did your favorite shows get the spotlight they deserve, or worse… get snubbed? Check out all the nominations below and stay tuned as we cover the Emmys leading up to the big night on Monday September 12, 2022! In the meantime, you can also refresh your memory and find the final winners here for this year’s OscarsGolden GlobesCritics ChoiceBAFTAsMTV Awards, and our very own DiscussingFilm Critics Awards!
